Learning about receptive skills is a good reminder that learning is not just words and phrases. To gain a student's interest and motivation requires an inciting subject/task. This will generate class participation and involvement. It is important for the teacher to understand his or her class and to understand the culture. For example, if teaching in Barcelona one can start a reading and listening portion of the class discussing why Lionel Messi was a better player than Johan Cruyff. If the age group within the class is vast this would be a perfect plan considering both players are from different generations. This would prompt much discussion and participation.
