The course also helps you approach how to correct students, when to correct students, and how to let students self correct. The course also helps reiterate how important it is for teachers to grasp and teach the tense system. The tense systems can be tricky for teachers to English learners. The course helps you gain an understanding of this system and not be intimidated by it. The course shows you the forms, usages, typical student errors, and teaching ideas. Personally, I did not have enough knowledge of this system before the course. Every teacher should be taking this course to learn about this system because it can be easy for teachers to teach the wrong thing. The course also helps the teacher by showing common error made by students that teachers need to be aware of. The course also gives you ideas for the active stages to address each system and to better help students grasp the concepts. It helps teachers keep lessons engaging and properly address what students need to work on. This course helps English teachers become effective in teaching pronunciation and making it an integral part of the course. The course helps teachers understand that phonology of English contains “individual sounds, sounds in connected speech, stress within words, and stress within whole utterances,” according to the unit 13 chapter. Teachers need to know these elements and also be aware of the importance of intonation. This is not something that is taught at the university as well as it should be. Teachers need to realize just how important each element is when learning the English language and how to teach them. The course gives you techniques for indicating and teaching intonation so teachers have options. Each class and student is different so the course gives you a number of different ways to help students. I also believe that this course helps you better understand why stressing words in sentences to help interpret sentences. This is something native English speakers aren’t aware of. It is important for teachers to be aware of the stresses and be able to teach the stresses. This course provides the phonemic symbols, manner and place of articulation for teachers. It breaks down articulation and parts of the mouth and nasal cavity that teachers are not aware of. The course provides teaching techniques for pronunciation of individual sounds. This is an important part of the course because teachers need to be aware of the different levels of beginner learners. I started this course thinking I wouldn’t learn much, but I was wrong. It humbled me and gave me endless resources and ideas to help me become a more effective teacher for TEFL students. Teachers will not have this depth of information given to them in the field. It will make teachers more confident in their abilities.
