In unit 12, we learned about the productive skills in English language teaching: speaking and writing. I think these are the more difficult skills to focus on, as they require students to be ready and willing to produce language verbally or in written form without being held back by the fear or worry of making mistakes. As I've learned from my own students, they will often know more language than they think they know, they just struggle with the skill or the confidence to use it. This unit talked about the importance of teaching these skills and how to motivate your students to use them, whether through giving them plenty of time to prepare before presenting their language, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere, or letting them use their language freely with minimal correction, except for on an individual level.
