As a native English speaker, I have never studied pronunciation in detail. This unit is one that I will need to pay careful attention to the details of when I am teaching. Because I have grown up hearing English correctly pronounced, I have not been taught the idiosyncrasies of the language pronunciation. The use of nonsense words, by gesture, or humming are ways that I would not have considered in teaching pronunciation. For me, this unit feels like a unit about poetry in a literature class. It helps to break down the specific sounds and emphasis placed on words and syllables. This is very important for students to understand in order to communicate.
