Unit 13 tackles the difficult topic of phonology and why it is important, as well as why it can be difficult to teach. It goes into the anatomy of speech and how sounds are created, which can be confusing as the teacher may be so used to making the sounds that it is hard to describe, or the student may not understand how a sound is made because they do not use that sound in their language. I underestimated just how in depth pronunciation can be, but I agree that it is very important for conveying the message you want, along with intonation and stress. They are all things that come naturally to us, but we have to remember to teach them to our students to avoid misunderstandings in communication. While this topic can be difficult to break down and teach, it can also create fun learning opportunities.
