This was a great review of the past tense system and its many applications in modern speech. After reading through this chapter, I began to understand concepts like all continuous forms feature some form of verb 'to be" plus the 'ing" form of verb. If the verb "to be" is in the present, it will be the present continuous. If the verb 'to be' is in the past....which means it will be the past continuous. As a native english speaker these concepts are such that I use quite regularly, yet becoming extremely aware through these diagnostics is a always a pleasantly exciting effect.
