The 'going to' future tense is used to indicate future plans with intentions and predictions based on evidence. It is a very common future tense used in both spoken and written English.

However, the supporting material can sometimes be outdated, limited in scope of coverage, and not allow much flexibility in what is taught. Thus the instructor should keep these in mind so he/she can add supplemental work to the lessons.
