In this lesson I learned about conditionals and reported speech. In short, conditionals are used to describe the result or consequence of something that might happen (in either the present or the future), or might have happened but didn’t (in the past). Reported speech on the other hand, refers to the process of telling somebody about questions and statements that have been made without quoting them explicitly (as is done with direct speech). I also learned about backshifting, a topic to which I had not given much thought but may be difficult for language learners to understand.
