Why I Found Taking a TEFL Course Beneficial
Completing a TEFL course is useful in many ways. Firstly, it is useful to complete a TEFL course because of the knowledge it provides. Before starting this course I had an English background, but I wasn’t aware of all the grammatical points I was missing out on. This course has made me think and taught me some very new ideas that I had not previously known before. Aside from grammar, I had picked up some very useful communication skills and problem-solving skills. When in a classroom I learned how to keep people engaged and active. A very useful technique is the ESA technique. That stands for engaging, study, activate. In this technique, you can use the straight-arrow method, boomerang method or the patchwork method depending on the situation of your class and lesson. Completing the TEFL course is useful in a way that provides so much knowledge that will be ideal inside and outside the classroom.

Preparation for Success
Another reason why completing a TEFL course is useful is that it prepared me on how to become a successful teacher. Before I took this course I had zero clues on how to have a teacher/student relationship. Now, I have no worries as to how to engage with the students. I found the video selection of the course where the teacher is teaching a class in the wrong way, and then in the right way. In the classroom, I have learned to establish a good, fun and engaging relationship with the students. A good way to get to know your students is to toss the ball around the room and whoever catches it has to answer the question that the person who threw it to them asked. I have learned that if a student is acting up, the best way to discipline them is to see them after class so you can talk one on one with them so they are not embarrassed in front of the whole class. You should never raise your voice or be violent with a student. Completing the TEFL has prepared me for the real world teaching environment and I can’t wait to get it started!

Funding Benefits
The final reason why completing a TEFL course is useful is it is cost-effective and on a time scale, a shorter option than a traditional school. A lot of people have busy lives and as we all know, schooling is very expensive. Completing a TEFL course that is accredited will save you so much time and money while getting your teaching career started. It gives you the basic information you will need to feel confident in the classroom. I didn’t have the time or the money to get an English degree so I looked into this program and I would say that I have chosen the right path! It gives you the skills that you will need to use daily. It will never hurt learning how to improve your grammar and or your communication skills with students. I would recommend all my friends who have an interest in becoming a TEFL teacher to take this route instead of traditional schooling.
