Unit 11 explains how to present and teach receptive skills (reading and listening). The different motives that we employ for reading and listening (whether for a purpose, or for entertainment) also play an important part in how a teacher may approach a lesson. A student is much more likely to be engaged in a lesson if a teacher picks a topic that interests the student than if they're not interested. Specialist skills, such as predictive skills, are also important to be aware of when approaching a lesson. Headlines or an introduction can help students with context and predicting content that may help them with unfamiliar vocabulary.
