As an English learner myself, I find listening can be really tricky. A sentence expressed verbally is always much more difficult than in written. Sometimes my students know all the words I say, but they just can't grasp the whole meaning. But when I type it out, they come to understand it very easily. I guess it has something to do with the characterisitcs of English pronunciation. liaison is very common among native speakers, wchich is something students are unfamiliar with. Because they are simply not taught this way.. So when I teach, i always touch upon some liaison skills ,even for beginners.
