A role of a teacher is not only to teach us but also to mold us as a person. They are the ones who share wisdom, learning, and experiences to us. We don't have any other professions if we don't have teachers. As a student, we may all have favorite teachers from our elementary, intermediate, and upper intermediate classes. And we have all our own reasons why we consider it as our favorite teacher. It can be with the attitude or behavior, skills, or techniques that are being used why does the teacher is effective. As a teacher, we may have different styles in teaching. We can be as a funny, cool, and energetic teacher which is applicable mostly with preschoolers. That is when we can apply songs as a motivation and story telling to get their attention in reading books. We can be creative as we can by using books for coloring time and use toys as a material for stories. We can also use flashcards when we want to introduce new words for vocabulary especially with elementary stage. Cassettes will still be useful for music as motivation. We all used these styles for motivation because this kind of students have a very short attention span. We can also be firm as we establish the discipline in a classroom especially if we will handle one of the challenging group in the classroom. Like if this class is consists of students which has a behavioral and academic opportunities. With this challenge, one of the powerful style is to have a great connection of a student- teacher relationship. We can talk to them as a friend to know what will be the reason for the challenge. For example, if they have problems inside or outside of the classroom. That is where we can resolve the concern. By this, we can gain their trust and they can be comfortable to talk to their teachers. As an elementary teacher, I have experienced teaching pupils in Grade two which gave me a more challenging part where I had three different kinds of students. One of these, a pupil which is not talking in class but good in written activities. What I did is to have at least a partner activity for this pupil to have an opportunity to talk in class. Creating activities like to know the interests of this particular pupil to give her confidence to talk in class like recitation activities which worked after two months of having these activities. Second, a pupil which has a very talkative and energetic pupil. Since he always finishes the activities quickly, I always give him an extra activity for him to avoid talking with his seatmates. He has his own sitting arrangement for monitoring purposes. Lastly, a pupil who is writing reversely. The very first thing that I did is to know if the parents are aware of it. After that, I talked to them to seek some help to continue the activities that we will have at home so that it will be easier for us to worked on this difficulty. It took me almost half of the school year to see the improvement. Overall, as a teacher, we should really know our students on how to engage them in learning process. It is our responsible to know if they receive the learning that will work for them. That is the reason why we really need to have different kinds of teaching styles to find out what strategy that will work for every student that we will have. That is one reason why we can be their favorite teacher.
