Teach English in Puji Zhen - Changsha Shi
The TEFL course is a useful learning experience that I would recommend any new teacher that is planning on teaching English. The course provides a lot of insight to a new teacher in many different forms. It covers everything from teaching strategies to verb tenses. Each individual lesson has strategies and potential problems a teacher will face in the classroom. This I why I believe that the any new English teacher should complete a TEFL course not only because it refreshes them on grammar but it also provides tools and tips for many different situations that can arise in a classroom with non-native English speakers. There are six different lessons in the TEFL course that are solely focused on grammar rules. These lessons are important to review for the teacher in a few different ways. For one, the teacher should be aware of these basic concepts because if a teacher is going to be teaching English they should be on top of simple concepts such as parts of speech and verb tenses. Another reason as to why these lesson are important is that it addresses how teaching each grammar can provide its own problems in the class. A new teacher should be aware of potential difficulties they may have in the classroom so they can deal with it accordingly. Each lesson provides example of how the concept is correctly used and reasons why it can be used, but it also shows frequent errors that students make when trying to master these concepts. Having a basic grasp of each one of these concepts as well as understanding issues that can arise when teaching them can be monumentally helpful for any new teacher. A classroom should be managed on what the class consists of. The course states itself that each class is essentially different in its own way and should be seen that way by the teacher. If a teacher goes in with the same game-plan with every single student they have, they most likely won’t be successful. This is why the course provides many different lessons that are in a basic sense a how-to guide on different classroom materials and essentials. This again is why it is important for a new teacher to take the TEFL course. Becoming a new teacher can be a potentially scary for some and it is important that have some sort of foundation they can build off of. The TEFL course provides that in many a lesson, but specifically the video lesson. The tenth lesson provides two videos of a teacher teaching in an ineffective and effective manner. This is very helpful because it can be good to read a strategy that can be used in class but it is a whole other thing to see it be put in action. The video allows the viewer to draw comparisons on what works in classes and what doesn’t work. This provides a sort of model for new teachers to use when they first start. In summary, any new teacher that plans on teaching English should take a TEFL course. The course provides a lot of enriching information that can help a teacher workout how a classroom should be managed. It troubleshoots a huge list of potential things that can go wrong in a classroom. But most importantly it covers basic grammar skills that all teachers should have as well as providing a basic foundation for new teachers to use in the form of tools and tips. If you wish to teach English to non-native English speakers then you should take a TEFL course to help prepare you for anything that can be thrown at you.
