English is a language of the world and provides unique experiences for each person that knows it or has a desire to learn it. It is being taught more and more frequently throughout schools across the world and really has developed as a global language. It is common knowledge in the workforce that anyone with a greater understanding of the English Language will be considered more preferable over someone who doesn't. This makes it a highly valuable skill and students are beginning to realise its importance. Theoretically speaking, if one was to look upon a map of the world which was colour coordinated to show the percentage of English speakers in the world, they'd easily come to see that over 20% of our earth speaks English. That's over 1.5 billion people in comparison to a global population of 7.5 billion. When taking into consideration that there are only 6 countries that are considered part of the "Anglosphere" (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the United States of America, Australia and Canada), it makes you think; How can 6 of the world's countries make up 20% of the world? In truth, they don't. Yet, English is so widely spoken across the world and it's predominately outside the Anglosphere! Thankfully enough, just by hearing these statistics one might just be able to understand why students all across the globe are taking an interest in learning English. It opens doors! When children (or students of all ages for that matter!) are given the opportunity to learn English, it is almost known for certain that they will take it. The English language is often associated with countries such as the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. All of which are known to have relatively strong economies. In many cases knowing this information, as well English creates the opportunity to change a student's life forever. For instance, a student's country of origin may not necessarily be particularly strong in terms of economy. So, many of them know that if they were to learn English, they would have the chance to further their education in a place that could provide them with a better quality of living. In many cases students could be provided with the opportunity to create a better life, not only for themselves, but, for their family as well. As mentioned previously, it is commonly known that employers generally favour employees who can speak English over those who cannot. This provides students with greater career opportunities as it allows them to work internationally rather than just in their country of origin. Doors open for them. As we all know, the more doors that open, the more likely it is that opportunities will arise. Students who have this knowledge then have the ability to encourage themselves to not only continue to studying English but, to further their eduction to a university level or similar. As most students will know that by knowing English they will have greater chances of work in the international work force and believe enough in themselves to have a higher quality of life and succeed in anything they wish to do. Where as in many cases, students who do not have this access to education could potentially be at a higher risk of poverty and being stuck within the same daily life routine, or living a poorer quality of life. Furthermore proving, that learning the English language not only provides students with the opportunity to further educate themselves, but, to change their lives and their futures. All for the better.
