Teach English in Maodianzi Zhen - Dandong Shi
There are two productive skills : speaking and writing. Teachers must create the need and desire in the students to communicate. In this unit we also tackled that accuracy and fluency has the same importance. Accuracy activities are to ensure accurate reproduction of the language while fluency activities are to check the effectiveness and flow of the communication. During accuracy based activities , language is controlled by the teacher and to help the students with it we can give them some drilling, prompting , model dialogues and guided role-play activity. During fluency based activity instead, the scenario is usually controlled by the teacher but the content of the language isn’t. To help students with the fluency we can teach them some creative communication activities such as: free role-play, debates, communication games etc. Students should be encouraged to speak and make them feel comfortable to be able to enjoy communicating with the teacher and their fellow students. There are some differences between speaking and writing, such as grammar and vocabulary. Some important factors on writing skills to consider are: handwriting, spelling, punctuation and layout. To improve this skills we can also encourage students to creative writing. To conclude this unit, it talked about how games can help both students and teachers to liven the lesson and at the same time learn the lesson in a fun way for it provides useful controlled practice.
