I found this unit (Unit 12) straightforward and in line with what I think about speaking and writing. Although writing is important, speaking is fundamental. In my opinion once one is able to communicate fairly well verbally and is a little comfortable with the new language he or she is more prone to tackling the writing skills. I speak due to personal experience. Once you start to understand the language you automatically also want to learn how to write to be able to communicate also by writing and not only speaking. Games as suggested in my opinion are a good tool especially of both reading and writing are involved.
