Living in a foreign country can be stressful in many ways, how to adjust in their culture, managing administrative documents for your stay to be legal, food differences, and of course how to interact with the locals. So how did English helped me in an non-English speaking country? When I left my beautiful country, the Philippines, I tried my luck finding an opportunity in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Again a non-English country, but since the population there is quite different from others, where according to GMI (Global Media Insight) Statistics only 11.48% Emiratis and 88.52% expats in population, and since the country opened their gates to expats they know that the only way to attract them is to make English as the main language and where speaking Arabic is only a plus. This is how I saw my potential in this country, I applied to companies and got myself a job in no time. With my professional experiences it opened my eye on how can a language instantly change ones' life. Even the head of the country and people working in their government have a knowledge of the language, the government encourages the locals to learn it so they can study abroad that will later on help their country for the future plans. This kind of ideology and openness is the reason how the country grew so fast and continues to attract expats to migrate there. I have visited many other countries (non-English speaking) and I find it amazing that even if I do not speak their language, we still can communicate all because of everyone's access to English. Here in France, parents are now aware of the advantages of the language and are now spending extra budget for their children to attend some classes. More and more French now are travelling to Asian countries with English as their way of communication unlike before where the average of the French usually spend their summer vacation only in French speaking countries. I started my career here in France because of my knowledge of English, I worked in a nursery as an English referent and now I would like to share the life I have lived, the doors that opened to my career and the life I am so grateful because of the English language. Being aware that not everyone have the courage to change their life radically, the idea of knowing that a language can open doors for you to see the world can be a good start of planning it. No one can tell you that all will be according to your plan but that's how life should be treated, you'll never know till you get there, or till you cross that path. English as a global language, as it is widely spoken in the world many companies require someone with a good level of the language. For someone who's open about having a career abroad this should not be a hindrance as learning is very accessible nowadays. English can only not change ones' career prospective, it can also help a country to advance like the UAE.
