This unit taught me the importance of writing and speaking, and what to take into consideration when teaching these in the classroom. When speaking, accuracy and fluency are both important, but come into play at different times in the classroom. For example, when students are learning new vocabulary or sentence patterns, accuracy may be more important, but during communicative games or creating content and presenting on it, fluency may be more important. It can be very intimidating to speak in another foreign language, so teachers must do their best to create a very comfortable and safe environment where students feel like they can make mistakes and speak freely. To practice writing, specifically with spelling, having students do extensive reading can be very beneficial.
