This lesson is about pronunciation and phonology. These two elements are very important to improve students' speaking skill. Working on pronunciation and phonology helps students understand what other people are talking about, so they can carry on the conversation. Most pronunciation focuses on individual sounds, which although the most obvious, is not necessarily the most important part. Phonology includes stress, rhythm, and intonation. Depending on speakers' purposes, they can apply stress and intonation in sentences differently. Teachers can teach intonation by humming, singing, and using nonsense words, board, and gesture. Contrastive stress, gesture, choral work, board, and stress marks can be used to teach stress. Many words are written with similar individual or groups of letters but are pronounced very differently. Therefore, knowing the phonemic symbols can help students pronounce words correctly. Teachers can teach the pronunciation of individual sounds by mouth diagrams, tongue twisters, and modeling sounds using their own mouths.
