My name is Daniel Hernando Moreno Guerrero, I am Colombian and the objective of this essay is to analyze and compare my experience working and living abroad with what I learned in this course in order to see some of my failures when teaching English to children in china and how could I improve my teaching skills. Chapter 1, new environment and culture In the first instance I lived in Japan for a couple of months, I was quite in touch with the children, because I had to go to a kindergarten almost every day and in the second place I was teaching English to preschool children for 5 months in China, to To begin with, we have the mistaken idea that in both countries the culture is very similar, but it is not so, they are very different countries and with unique customs in each of these, if we concentrate on the aspect of the teaching found while in both countries the role of the teacher inspires respect but while in Japan the student-teacher relationship is very rigid, strict and somewhat ambiguous in China the student-teacher relationship is somewhat more friendly and enjoyable, this leads to some points to take into account the Active time a position as a foreign teacher: -Respect for the culture of each country -Your ability to be able to adapt to a new environment -Be patient, positive and persevering Continuing with the cultural issue, I have found that it is also very important to make an investigation of the customs of the country, such as what is the local food, typical animals of the area, their customs and other topics that are of great cultural relevance in order to adjust your classes to topics with which students can relate to their learning, then as a final concept of this chapter, I think that cultural aspects are very relevant as is also established in unit 1 page 7 of this course. Chapter 2 teaching methodologies My story begins teaching in China, because I started there with very little or rather no experience, the school did not grant me any course book so I was the one who had to think about the subject of the class and organize my lessons, this school gave Somewhat experimental classes also in which many times I had to give classes to children of 2 years, and in which I had a very varied range of ages for the classes that went from 2 to 12 years which made the the work more difficult Since 2-year-olds still do not have any understanding of the vocabulary that I tried to teach and it was really easy for bigger kids with a better understanding of english which in principle were disorganized and without a teaching methodology, so I had to learn for myself the way in better quality to teach children, start with a warm-up, the quality can be a song or dance, then, just like the teaching methodology Engage-Study-Activate ESA, I used to do my class by commenting on the Engage phase, in which for example I chose the subject to be taught (clothes) I read them a book about the subject and asked them about clothes, what color is it? Who has a red jacket? etc., then for the Study phase, all the students had to observe on a screen and together we filled a gap-fill activity with a question and an image relative to the answer and thus guess what word was going in the blank, and Last but not least for the Activate phase, each child had to cut out different clothes from a magazine and / or newspaper and thus glue and dress the clothes a doll drawn on a paper and describe what clothes was wearing each one of his characters and what color are the clothes and talk about it. Analyzing the kind of classes that I think are the lessons of ESA Stright arrow at that time I did not know and had no knowledge about these teaching methods and I concluded I got to give ESA injuries by trial and error, but if I can say that this course gave me enough useful ideas about how to give a future lessons, that is the importance of teaching methods related in this course in unit 2. Chapter 3: Positivity and encouragement In this last chapter I would like to talk about the importance of positivity and the moods that you project to your students since they are of vital importance so that they can feel comfortable, animated and motivated to develop any proposed activity, the emotional part is quite important , we also have to act with a lot of respect and kindness towards the students, it is important to maintain composure, in many units of this course these aspects are mechanized and I think that the most important thing is to be positive and organized with the management of the classes and thus be able to Do your best during your teaching experience. In conclusion I think I made a lot of mistakes when I started teaching without experience, the classes were initially disorganized but I think that experience gave me a lot to learn, but so you don't have experience, you can achieve many things if you are positive. My experience was very good so far and that is why I will improve my skills as a teacher.
