The unit outlined different views on lesson planning and how finding a balance is likely the path taken by most teachers, whereby they neither over nor under-plan. I appreciate that it was acknowledged that being flexible and paying more attention to the student’s progress is likely as important as having a plan, even if not one that is extremely detailed. But the text did make a very good point about the value of having a detailed plan which can then be ignored if prudent, vs not having a good plan and finding yourself in need. Further, a detailed plan is a record that can show what has been accomplished and how close the learner is to reaching their objective. It was very helpful to see the detailed and specific examples for lesson plans. While my plans do not follow this format, I do appreciate the level of detail shown, and how a given lesson can be literally packed with information and activities that keeps the pace of the class moving and engaging. However, there is a downside to packing lessons with so much teaching and work, and that is when students are not able to stay abreast of the subject matter and subsequently fall behind with each successive lesson.
