Firstly, this unit helped me brush up the university knowledge on the classification of English sounds. As someone, whose mother tongue is not English, I had to learn it as a second language. However, it was not until university that the question of integrating phonology and intonation into the studies was raised and we were taught a separate course on phonetics. When I was an ESL student, the attention paid to pronunciation and intonation, in particular, was extremely limited at language courses, let alone at schools. Therefore, this part of the TEFL course emphasizes the significance of implementing at least some elements of phonetic studies into the lessons.
