The four basic skills of language are reading and listening then speaking and writing. They are all important. The reasons for reading and listening are broken down in to two separate categories. Those are for purpose and for entertainment. Some times you may use both reasons simultaneously. For example, when reading a tour book that you find both entertaining but also educational. How we read and listen are also broken down in to various categories based on specific skills. These are predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information, and deduction based on context. Problems with listening and reading can be anticipated. One such way is to pre-teach vocabulary. By anticipating problematic language, you can teach these words to the students prior to their facing it.
