there are for basic skills in any language Receptive which is reading and listening and Productive skills which are speaking and writing. all are equally important and must incorporate all four while teaching. Normally people read or listen for a purpose or for entertainment. For reading and writing we need ears and eyes as well as our mind to understand what we need. Certain skills are needed for reading and writing such as Predictive skill, Specific information Scanning skill, General idea skimming skill, Detailed information and Deduction from context skill. There are certain problems faced with listening and reading in connection with language topic and task. language problem arises by the length of a sentence , word length, number of unfamiliar words etc , all this can be solved by pre teaching vocabulary. but a balance need to be made between pre teaching structure and student access unknown language. and a teacher needs to be careful in selecting texts.Similarly a topic must be interesting and should motivate student similarly the task selected must not be too easy or too difficult.
