This unit introduces the two receptive skills: reading and listening and discusses their value in learning and comprehension of a new language. English students must eventually be able to divine meaning from written and audible English in authentic texts and real-life conversations, and so will need practicing pulling meaning from these sources. This is also a good way to practice what has been previously learned by more advanced students. Depending g on the level of the student different texts, and study/activate exercises should be chosen. Making the texts, conversations interesting to the students will help them engage with the activity, so time should be taken to make them applicable, fun, approachable, and relevant to the students as individuals and as a group.
