This unit introduces 4 basic skills in any language - reading, listening, speaking and writing. All skills are equal. Reading and listening are called receptive skills. When teaching receptive skills, we have to prepare the texts before the lesson. We have to decide, if we will use authentic texts or non-authentic. Authentic texts are not suited for the beginners. Also, we have to know, what topics are interesting for our students. If the topic is not interesting for them, they will find it difficult to to engage in the lesson. Whatever text we choose, we have to pre-teach the vocabulary and get the students motivated and interested in the activities.
