Unit 14 covered coursebooks and lesson materials. It divides lesson materials into two types: authentic materials (such as menus, magazines, etc.), and created materials, which means materials created by the teacher for the class (crosswords, flashcards, etc.). There are several examples of teacher-created materials shown. In the section on coursebooks, some advantages and disadvantages are listed. An advantage of using a coursebook would be that it provides a syllabus. A disadvantage would be that they may not suit the needs and interests of the class. A flexible approach is recommended -- use the textbook as a general guideline, but feel free to omit, replace, supplement, and adapt the lessons.
