People say that the teaching profession is the most rewarding job there is. Knowledge is first acquired by the children from their parents but it is the teacher's job to nourish it. Teachers lay down the stepping stones of a student from pre-school to university. They create other professions- of future engineers, doctors and other works that help sustain a nation. But what makes a teacher a 'good teacher'? A good teacher is someone who does not teach alone but also someone who continuously strive for learning for his or her betterment. How can someone teach if that someone is unfamiliar with what he or she is supposed to impart? Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course serves as a refresher for teachers with regards to English grammar. It offers points about the parts of speech, tenses of the verb, conditionals, direct and reported speech, modals, phrasal verbs and voices of the verb. These are just some of the subjects that teachers can re-learn so they can be confident enough when facing students inside the classroom. TEFL course is a threshold of additional learnings. Teachers will be able to know different teaching theories, methods, and techniques inside an ESL (English as a Second Language) classroom. Everything that can be found inside the classroom, including the students, can be put to good use. Classroom arrangement allows students to have an interaction with one another and promotes English speaking time. TEFL course is also a good credential for teachers who want to pursue teaching English to non-native English speakers or to work abroad. Working abroad has its own advantages as it opens your eyes to a new culture and fresh experience. But to be able to experience these, teachers should also be equipped emotionally and professionally.
