In this unit the 3 aspects of Stress, Rhythm and Intonation of Phonology were introduced. In the classroom there should be enough time for practice of pronunciation, stress and intonation in order to show importance of accuracy and clarity of communication. Patterns of Intonation include fall/rise, rise/fall and flat, and could be taught by techniques such as Nonsense words, Gesture, Humming or Singing, and the Board. On the other hand, the strong part of a sentence is the stressed word or word that bears the principal emphasis. Techniques to teach about stress could be Contrastive stress, Gesture, Choral work, the Board and Stress marks. The key is to feel the music of the language. For Sound joining, Linking, Sound dropping/changing and Extra lettering were introduced. Manner and place of articulation chart gives a brief understanding to all the English phonetics, and articulation can be taught through ways like Peer dictation, the teacher's own mouth, visual aids, phonemes and tongue twisters.
