This unit on teaching pronunciation and phonology was very difficult and totally insane. I drank more cups of coffee studying and trying to understand this unit than any of the others so far. I can see why teachers don't go where angels fear to tread. If I don't understand this phonemic, anemic language and symbols, how can I expect any ESL student from any country around the world to grasp this moronic language. It is not helpful to me and I don't see how it can be helpful to foreigners trying to learn the English language. What was helpful to me was the part on teaching techniques for pronouncing individual sounds. Along with it was the information on when to teach pronunciation. The use of an American updated dictionary will suffice for me as a tool in helping students to pronounce any or most words.
