This unit discusses the pronunciation as a way a word is pronounced and the phonology, which is the science and classification of the physical properties of sounds. The areas of the phonology are intonation, stress and rhythm. Intonation is the variation of volume and pitch in a whole sentence. The phonemic alphabet is a set of symbols that represent the way we put sounds together to form words, as a table of the phonetics symbols is also provided. Articulation is the way we produce speech through not only through vocal chords, but also through some organs, as places and manners of articulation are also discussed. Some of the techniques for the pronunciation of individual sounds are peer dictation, over - emphasising on teacher`s own mouth, drawing a mouth diagram, phonemes, tongue twisters.
