This unit covered topics related to pronunciation and phonology such as; intonation, stress, the phonemic alphabet, phonemic symbols, articulation, as well as teaching techniques for the pronunciation of individual sounds. As a native speaker of English, I found the section on intonation and stress fascinating, as it is not something I normally put a lot of thought into. It is interesting that we, on an almost subconscious level, acknowledge and understand the subtleties of intonation and stress in the English language, and respond accurately to those subtleties. This adds a whole new layer of difficulty in learning the English language, as intonation and stress of words and sentences can change the overall meaning. The section on articulation was also very helpful because, again, as a native speaker, I do not put much thought into how sounds are produced. This information will be essential in helping my students pronounce sounds correctly. Overall, this was a very interesting, informative and helpful unit.
