This unit covered the main aspects on Phonology. Intonation, stress, articulation were a few aspects dealt with in this lesson. Pronunciation is very important in the study of a new language. Although difficult and not very straightforward, pronunciation should be taught in order to help students achieve the closest pronunciation to a native speaker. This will not only boost their confidence, but will also allow them to properly interact in the target language and be understood. The lesson also covered the phonetic transcription of voiced and unvoiced consonants, vowels and diphthongs. In order for students to study phonetic transcription, a dictionary would come in handy. Another topic we looked at was articulation. The place of articulation is very important as it tells us what type of phoneme is being produced (velar, palatal, palatal-alveolar, dental, etc). Also, the manner of articulation produces different types of sounds (plosives, fricatives, nasals, laterals, affricates or approximants).
