Unit 13 focused on teaching pronunciation and introduced the study of phonology to the reader. Pronunciation is the least taught or most neglected area of teaching English as a second language because the concepts can be hard for the teachers themselves to grasp. Knowing about intonation and stress and the difference between them in native English speaking can help with instructing others to have a more natural sounding speaking ability. The study of how language is produced with the human anatomy is interesting and knowledge of phonology can also help the teacher better explain and demonstrate the way to make correct sounds when pronouncing the language.
