In this lesson, we covered teaching receptive skills, reading and listening. I found it helpful that the lesson highlighted the different ways we use these skills, such as skimming for the general idea, scanning for particular information, or reading/listening more thoroughly for complete comprehension. It's probably good to know these as it may be important for students to know their objective when reading/listening, ie the student is tasked to answer specific questions on a story, which would be better for them to scan the reading for vs. trying to understand the entire thing. Along with these skills, I also learned about the variety of texts we as teachers can use to build student confidence while also exposing them to a wide range of authentic and non authentic texts.
