There are four skills in learning language. Reading and listening are receptive skills; speaking and writing are productive skills. All of them are equally important but in this unit we considered receptive skills. There are two reasons for reading and listening when students learn language: for purpose (when a student needs to achieve a particular goal) and entertainment (when it is enjoyable). There are different skills of reading and listening; they are predictive skills, detailed information, scanning, skimming and deduction from the context. Students can face a variety of problems listening and reading that’s why a teacher should carefully choose tasks and activities. The topics should be interested to all the students, texts shouldn’t be authentic, pre-teaching vocabulary should be provided; realistic comprehension task would be easier for understanding.
