Teach English in Arikunduleng Zhen - Tongliao Shi
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”1 This has been said by the wise king Salomon over 2 000 years ago. The first seven years of a child are vital, this carries a big responsibility. Nowadays we live in a society wherein both parents are often forced to work to make a living and as a consequence parents leave the responsibility for educating their children to the teacher at a very young age. When a child goes to school at the age of seven, he or she still has a lot of energy and is not interested in sitting quietly behind the school benches. Nature is a wonderful instrument here. You can learn a lot of object lessons out of it if you learn your children to see. They are still outdoors and have so enough movements yet they are learning and calmed down. You may not always have the opportunity to go outside, it cannot be avoided to be seated in a classroom. Here it’s important to have enough sunlight. Not only children but adults as well function better and are happier when you have light in the room. For a child’s mental development it is good to have an open and bright classroom filled with fresh air. Your brain is need of fresh air to function properly, so why not open the windows in between classes or even during the class. As previously stated, children have a lot of energy and seem always awake. This is also due to the fact that they move a lot and movement causes blood flow, this causes again more oxygen in the overall body and so also in the brain. This means more brain awareness. A big influence on a child’s development is movement so a teacher should make her students move when he or she sees that they lack concentration. Especially after lunch. When we eat the blood will go to our stomach for digestion. So we will not have enough nutrients in our brain which will make us tired. Every teacher should have a basic knowledge of our physiology to avoid these problems. Yet not only teacher but also children should be aware of this. A fifth point that has an influence is the teachers character. In 2 Corinthians 3:18 we read the following: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” There is a lot that can be said about this verse but the main point is: by beholding you become changed. Because a teacher can be up to 6 hours with her or his students, the deportment of the teacher will have a big impact. Having morals, being consistent and having a clear speech is what the children will learn as well. To conclude we can see that a child is not only influenced by what he/she learns but as well by: - Nature - Light - Air - Movement - Teacher’s character 1 Proverbs 22:6
