Never in my wildest dream did I think of becoming a teacher. I just woke up one day realizing that I was no longer a student, and had to find a job. It was in January 2011 when my cousin told me that their company was looking for an additional employee. My cousin, who was already working there asked me if I wanted to be a part of their company and work as an ESL teacher. At first, I had no idea what ESL teacher was all about, so my cousin explained it to me. I instantly got an interest about the said job. The next day, I was already in their office and applying for a job. Luckily, the company hired me to be one of the teachers even though I had no experience in ESL teaching. They told me to start immediately. I was only 21 when I started my career as an ESL teacher in 2011. I was a Business major in college and there were a lot of things in English that I was not familiar with, especially with grammar. My pronunciation and accent by that time were not that really good, but it did not make me feel sad, in fact, just by listening with the way my coworkers would speak during their classes, it made me feel inspired to sound like them and to be better in terms of my accent and my pronunciation. ESL teaching has taught me a lot of things especially in technical manner. Through ESL teaching, I became more familiar with grammar rules, I have learned a lot of words or vocabulary and I became better when it comes to the pronunciation and proper stress of the words. This job has helped me boost my confidence when it comes to speaking and writing. It was and will always be my bread and butter. This job has given me the opportunity to meet people from other countries, too. I have learned about their culture. With this kind of job, it taught me that English is a language and it will never measure intelligence of people, it is a kind of skill that everyone could acquire. Teaching and meeting different types of people is one the things I love about this job. I am delighted because I get the chance to talk to professionals, kids, teenagers. I also like the fact that you could also discover and learn many things just by talking to your students. This kind of job is a testament that you don't stop learning things in school, as a matter of fact, you will find new learning by simply checking your lesson or material. You will never feel bored with this kind of career. I am very happy with my teaching career, I love this job and I will forever be grateful for all the things and experience I have learned and gained with this profession. I am very ecstatic and grateful to my company / employer for helping me with my TESOL certificate. To have a TESOL certificate has always been one of my wishes the moment my ESL teaching career has begun.
