The notion of phonetics/phonology exists only because alphabets do,there exist 26 letters of the alphabet which are divided into vowels and consonants. Each of these letters are very unique and fundamental when it comes to fully understand how words are formed and how we come about with the ability to read and write using a combination of these letters, even though some words can not be read nor written following the phonemes, yet to better understand how most are we will have to divide this work into fragments beginning with the difference and relation between phonetics/phonology. Phonetics is the study of human sounds and phonology is the classification of these sounds, that is to say phonology handles how sounds are organized and used naturally while phonetics tackles each and every sound of the alphabet so as to enable easy reading, and writing thus creating the ability to hear and identify, which makes reading and writing possible, but for one to better grasp the concept fully we will have to analyze it detailly.A single letter has a sound,so does a combination of letters and then a word,so we need to closely identify the relationship between these two themes carefully. That said the area of phonology covers the intonation(variation in volume and pitch in a sentence) which is subdivided into rise/fall intonation, fall/rise intonation, and flat intonation, stress(helps us understand what the speaker is saying) we have to understand that one word has one stress, we can only stress syllables and the rhythm. The phonemic symbols on the other hand deal with teaching the letter sounds then blending them to achieve full pronunciation of words we call these synthetic phonics, here we observe that we must understand which are vowels and which are consonants, so as to better be able to use them correctly, not leaving behind diphthongs. Furthermore, we have to better understand articulation to be able to make the sounds of these letters appropriately using our speech organs which consist of tongue, larynx, glottis and the manner of articulation also contributes to correct pronunciation thus we observe that the concept of phonetics and phonology are cumbersome and complex to assimilate but they walk in the same direction and give us a smooth part to easy reading and writing once we grasp the concepts and practice them well, thus making them very fundamental. Finally we are going to look at some of the difficulties when it comes to understanding the principles of phonetics/phonology but still facing problems with reading and writing, when it comes to reading some words like was, has(sight words) which is most often memorized and not decoded, also sounds join in English in four different ways which includes linking sound, dropping sound, changing sound and extra lettering ,some sounds might vary depending on native place, so will intonations, manner of articulation will definitely have some slight difference resulting to a minute change in the sounds. Thus it is vivid that phonology/phonetics play greatly to the enhancement of reading and writing skills yet it is difficult to totally read and write, without making errors due to the nature of the language, also we pronounce the word read both in the past and present in different ways but spelling remains same, hence we can see that the concept of phonetics/phonology guides and helps us to be able to read and write but they also face certain challenges which makes it difficult, so the difficulties here refer to the exceptions which create an obstacle to fully using phonetics/phonology to have full access to reading and writing everything conveniently.
