Unit thirteen is a challenging section on teaching phonetic concepts. Although I am a fluent English speaker, many of the symbols in the phonetic alphabet were new to me. The chapter showed how different parts of the mouth and vocal cords are used to create certain sounds. Additionally, it was interesting to learn in a formal manner how native speakers naturally link, drop, change, and add sounds to sentences when certain words are spoken in a row.
