This unit started by discussing the different intonations used in the English language. Most statements follow the rise/fall pattern. When people use a fall/rise intonation, this usually indicates that the speaker wants some sort of response from the listener(s). The unit continued on to discuss how the stress in a sentence can greatly change the meaning conveyed. Some helpful ways to teach stress is by clapping or snapping at the right stress. This unit also went into depth surrounding the phonemic symbols and how the human mouth produces different places of articulation. I learned that there are distinct areas in the mouth and ways in which we use these areas to create a multitude of noises and sounds.
