For any work to yield best results, it has to be efficiently executed for which meticulous planning is a must. Teaching is a very responsible work which decides the careers and hence lives of students. Teaching is not just a routine job that can be done impromptu. Hence it has to be planned. A teacher teaches different classes each day. Each class has its own syllabus which has to be completed within the stipulated time like academic year, trimester or semester. A teacher has to plan how he is going to complete the syllabus within the specified period for different classes. Even in the given syllabus, he has to evaluate the difficulty levels of various topics and allocate time for each accordingly. He also has to keep in mind the general uptake levels of each class while allocating time, more for the classes with students poor in uptake and so on. He will have to lay emphasis on important aspects of the lessons that are the foundation for later lessons. Thus having a lesson plan is very important and an absolute must. He will have to plan teaching method for each lesson based on the difficulty level of the lesson. He may have to plan for different teaching aids like audio, visual, slides, etc. The same lesson may have to be planned differently for different batch of students. Bringing in music and movement for younger children can be very effective in learning. Art plays a major role for all young learners as it has been proved that drawing and painting has deeper and longer understanding of things and subjects. Role play and performing of different stories in the classroom can be interesting activities to help understand lesson better. A lesson plan cannot be rigid. Many a times a teacher may have to revise his lesson plan due to unforeseen reasons like holidays, his own absence or even poor learning by the students. If from tests he finds that majority of the students have not learnt a particular lesson, it means that his teaching method of the particular lesson is not effective and hence will have to replan the lesson. Thus it may be inferred that a good lesson plan is a tool for a good teacher who not only has to take it seriously while planning but also has to refer and adhere to it. It is not enough to just plan mentally but has to be physical like written or on computer, so that it is ready to refer, review and modify. Since each teacher has his own teaching method, the lesson plans are different for the same lesson by different teachers. What ever may be the plan, the ultimate aim of the plan should be the same, to complete the syllabus and make the maximum number of students in the class understand and learn it.
