Teach English in Hongqi Zhen - Xilinguole Meng — Xilin Gol
The teacher and student play an important role in education where teacher acts as a facility center of information and knowledge and student acts as a learner of information and knowledge. Teachers, who used to be the subject matter experts and the deliverers of all content, will transfer more of the learning process and responsibility to students. Students then become responsible for understanding where to access information and how to collaborate in a Web-based environment. And now many decisions has been taken to use technology in the field of education shifting the focus from traditional teaching to educational technology using Computer Aided Language Learning (CALL) programs. CALL programs are currently employed to assist learners developing their second language competence and skills, including grammar, vocabulary, and etc. and to enhance the learner's understanding of foreign cultural values and attitudes. Computers have significant contributions and lead to better teaching. Furthermore, since 1950s they tend to be more popular for language learning because there is a need to figure out the efficient and scientific methods in language teaching. Computers are prominent devices among other technologies which should attach to collaborate with the curriculum requirement and reach certain learning goals. It can be used as a modern approach towards language teaching and learning in which the computer is utilized as an aid to the presentation, and as reinforcement and assessment of material to be learned by usually including substantial interactive materials. Over the years, it has become communicative, interactive and explorative such that audio and video exercises or activities can easily be integrated. The emergence of the World Wide Web now known simply as "the Web" in the early 1990s marked a significant change in the use of communications technology for all computer users. The e-mail, a form of a synchronous Computer-Mediated Communication, has been called “the mother of all Internet applications. E-mail communication benefits teachers by identifying instructional focus and taking advantage of instructional moments to fit the developmental needs of their students in authentic situations. And it is also found that e-mail motivates learners, encourages authentic communication, and creates new learning opportunities. The development of e-mail learning can turn the traditional classroom to the new and exciting place for foreign language learners to communicate more useful in their foreign language and continue it outside of the class. On the other hand “Because of the nature of e-mail, foreign language learners do not have to be in a specific classroom at a particular time of day in order to communicate with others in the foreign language” (Ganglewski, Meloni, & Brant, 2001). Other pedagogical benefits of e-mail include: - E-mail expands topics beyond classroom-based ones. - E-mail promotes student-centered language learning. - E-mail encourages equal opportunity participation. - E-mail connects speakers quickly and cheaply. The value of the multimedia and the Internet in the enhancement of interaction for language learning cannot be disregarded. Multimedia and Internet interaction open the doors to different learning perspectives, different ways of behavior, beliefs, language expressions, and styles of communication. With the advent of multimedia and the Internet, the role of computers in language instruction has now become an important issue confronting large numbers of language teachers throughout the world.
