This course taught me how to structure lesson plans to include engage, study, and activate phases. It also taught me how to get the best use out of a course book, by using it to help plan what to teach but evaluating it critically to decide how I can supplement it to meet my students? specific learning needs. I learned how to use games to promote learning. I also learned advanced grammar concepts (such as the conditional tenses) and thought through various ways to teach them. I gained experience anticipating what problems students and I as the teacher might have with lesson plans and thinking of solutions. All of the material that the course covered was practical and easy to implement into teaching. Having completed this course, I feel better prepared to teach ESL. I know what resources are available to me to help me create lessons and I know I can look back through the lessons if I do struggle with a specific area. I feel confident about planning lessons and teaching students. Mostly I gained an understanding of what teachers should be aware of and consider in order to provide their students with the best opportunity to develop their english language skills.
