This unit taught me the difference between receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing) skills within a language. I also learned that each of these components is just as important as the others. This unit also helped me understand the different reasons that we read and listen. Sometimes these receptive skills are used to ascertain deep information and other times the skills are used purely for pleasure. This unit also focused on how there could be potential issues with reading and listening. It is important for the teacher to be selective about the material used in class and choose the difficulty in relation to what the students can handle.
