This unit taught me the importance of listening and reading. The skills students learn when studying a new language are all important, and one isn't necessarily more important than another because they are all crucial to being able to fully understand a new language. There are different reasons why reading and listening are important, such as simply for pleasure, or for a purpose. And there are different ways someone could be reading something, more in depth to learn detailed information, or to skim, to get a general idea of the text, or scanning, which allows readers to learn a specific fact they are looking for. This unit also taught me the importance of the materials/topics teachers choose to use in the classroom. The information should be interesting and cater to the students' interests because this ultimately makes them more engaged in the classroom.
