There are four basic skills in any language, they are reading, listening, speaking and writing. Reading and listening are receptive skills while speaking and writing are productive skills. All are equally important. This unit was about receptive skills. Firstly, the reasons for using receptive skills vary, they could be for a purpose or for entertainment. The reasons impact on which skills we use, for example, predictive skills, specific information scanning, general idea skimming, detailed information use, or perhaps deduction from context. When selecting study material for the students, teachers should consider a variety of interesting materials and ease the learning process by preparing students with word exercises and studies prior to and during studying the material.
