This unit talks about the two receptive skills: reading, and listening. When reading or listening, people apply specialist skills, those skills are: predictive skills, scanning, skimming, reading for detailed information, and deducing information from context. In order to avoid problems with students struggling with reading or listening its important to pre-teach vocabulary and carefully select texts or audio that is suitable to the students' level. It is also important to choose topics that will generally interest the students so that they are motivated to engage.
