This unit describes future tenses in English language. There are 7 "future" tenses - Future simple (will/shall+V) used for facts, promises, assumptions, predictions (without evidence), spontaneous decisions, threads. teaching ideas: what will you take when going on a holiday? Predicting what others will be like in X year; songs -future continuous (will+be+Ving) usage: something in progress at a particular moment in the future; prediction; polite inquiry about other people's plans; teaching ideas: arranging calendar; illustrations ; -Future perfect (will+have+ V in past participle form) Something will have been done or achieved by a certain time in the future. Another way of describing this tense is "past in the future", e.g. completed action from a future standpoint. Teaching ideas: students tell each other what they will have done by a certain year; choose a famous person and write down highlights in their career using this tense Future Perfect Continuous (will+ have+been+ Ving) Is used to describe how long something will have continued by a certain time. The word "by" is often an indicator of this tense. Teaching ideas: students ask each other how long they will have been learning English / working/ living in their house by end of this year. Be going+ infinitive This tense is used to indicate intentions, predictions based on current evidence, plans made before speaking. Teaching ideas: making holiday plans; make weather predictions based on evidence; describe what the students are going to be after they finish school. Present Simple (V) for schedules and timetables; suggestions of formal situations or with a more impersonal tone. Teaching ideas: discussing weekly timetables Present Continuous (aux. be+ Ving) Used to describe definite arrangements or decisions/plans without a time frame Teaching ideas: students in pairs are given calendars and trying to find time when they are both available to meet; role-play where the client is trying to make an appointment with a front-desk lady
