This unit taught me the importance of phonetics and pronunciation. It is common for English teachers to neglect pronunciation because often native speakers don't even think about their own correct pronunciation of words, therefore, they don't put a lot of focus and attention on it. There are many different ways sentences can be said, and the tone of a sentence can have different implications. The normal pattern of intonation is the rise/fall, where the pitch gradually rises, and then falls right down to where the speaker started. Another intonation pattern is the fall/rise pattern, which often indicates surprise and disagreement. This unit also taught me the phonetic alphabet and how different letters and words are spoken, and where your mouth placement goes. And it also provided different teaching techniques to practice pronunciation and phonetics.
